Cotswold District Councillor Richard Norris (Con) is delighted that two new bike racks have been installed in Tetbury town centre behind the Market Hall.

Cllr Norris recognised there was a great need for cyclists to have somewhere to leave their bikes safely, and was delighted when his bid for funding from the Government’s Welcome Back Fund was successful. The fund aims to support the return to high streets safely and help ‘build back better’ from the pandemic.

Cllr Norris says ‘I would like to thank the grounds team at Tetbury Town Council for installing the bike racks. Cyclists will be thrilled with this news, they now have visible and secure town centre bike storage for their bikes, enabling them to browse our cafes, independent shops and business without anxiety. There has been no provision for bike storage before and I really wanted to address this. My aim is to help local people who want to walk or cycle to work, or visitors touring the area, making it easier for them to leave the car at home. Cycling to Tetbury means no petrol or parking expenses, reduced air pollution and is more convenient to get about the town quickly and easily and takes the pressure off our car parks.’

Local businesses and the town council engaged with the scheme and the Town Council gave their approval on the style and location of the bike racks. There are two racks, providing secure storage for 12 bikes.

‘Cycling is wonderful for health and wellbeing and supports our commitment to improving the local environment. Tetbury is a popular destination for cyclists and the new bike racks will encourage visitors to spend more time here, and visit our wonderful independent shops and cafes. Tetbury is an even better place for cyclists to visit now.’
